Year 3 Football Festival

A group of Year 3 boys attended a football festival held at Chessington Community College on Tuesday 9th January.

Six schools took part in a fast paced tournament which gave our boys their first chance to compete for St Matthew’s, and their first chance to play as a competitive team. The first match did not go our way and we lost, but the team we lost to won every match and had much more experience as they play together each week. The boys rallied and went on to win the next four matches with spectacular scores! Charlie scored two hat tricks and both Aashir and Dior showed great strategic and passing skills. Harry, Oliver and Elliot showed tenacity and good team skills. Blair was terrific in attack and defence, and Jerome, our “man of the tournament”, was a fearless and effective goalie! All the boys played well, despite the cold, and as the floodlights came on we went into the final match against Limetree School with confidence. The teams were very closely matched, but as the whistle blew they were one goal up. Mr Collard was distraught as he felt ours was the stronger team. It was an exciting final game in a very successful tournament. Well done all!
