Admissions

It can seem a little daunting choosing a school and then filling out the required forms,  but rest assured it is quick and easy to do.

You must apply for a primary school place one year before your child can start school. Children are eligible for Reception in the September of the school year in which they become five years old (1 Sept – 31st Aug); you need to apply when your child is three or has just turned four.

You must apply to the local authority to which you pay your council tax, even if you are naming preferred schools outside of the borough.

The deadline for admission in September 2026 is  Thursday 15 January 2026.  Please visit the Royal Borough of Kingston website where you will be able to see how to apply on line for your child’s reception school place using the eAdmissions website.

If you do not have access to a computer or need help please do not hesitate to ask in the School Office.

As a Church School we have an additional supplementary form  if you have worshipped at St Matthews Church, St Georges and Churches Together in Surbiton on average once a fortnight for the 24 months prior to 15th January 2026. This form should be completed and returned to St Matthew’s CofE Primary School after you have applied for your primary place  and by the closing date of 15th January 2026.

In-Year Transfer

If you are looking to move a child in any other year group please contact School Admissions at The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Email: kingston.admissions@achievingforchildren.org.uk

Further information can be found on their website .

Please do not hesitate to telephone or visit the school office if you have any queries about the admission process.
