Year Two - Blue and Orange

Welcome to Year 2!

In Orange class the teacher is Miss Heatley and in Blue class the teacher is Mrs Glaze & Mrs Vassall who are both supported by Miss James.

In Year 2 we are focusing on building the children’s independence both towards learning and within themselves. This skill will empower them when entering KS2. Through preparing the children for this change, we believe in celebrating any achievement, no matter how small. To encourage children to become more independent we assign roles or jobs to be completed within the classroom. For example, tidying the classroom library or being in charge of taking the register tray back to the school office. The children’s independence towards their work is seen through less adult assistance and more peer talk through advising others. The use of talking partners enables the children to develop their communication skills. This contributes to children having a deeper understanding of what they are learning.

The topics we cover in Year 2 are also very exciting and promote independent research through home learning tasks. Within the Autumn term we look at The Great Fire of London. The Spring term covers ‘famous explorers and pioneers’ within history.  Within the Summer term we begin to learn about castles and we also get the opportunity to visit Windsor castle. Please see our curriculum overviews on our school website for more detailed outlines.
