Curriculum
We wanted to inject greater passion into our teaching and learning, inspiring and motivating children to learn and teachers to teach. We also wanted to raise standards across the curriculum areas by making our curriculum more varied, exciting and creative, whilst still adhering to the requirements of the National Curriculum. We wanted to make the links between subject areas more concrete for the children, thereby equipping them with the skills and knowledge they will need for the future.
The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.
The attached guide provides a clear outline of the new content, by year group, with some background information about how the curriculum and assessment works.
