Year Five - Sapphire and Topaz

Year Five is made up of two classes – Miss Thomas and Mr Ahmad in Sapphire and Mrs Ritchie and Mrs Earle in Topaz. During the year, the children will be immersed in the learning of a wide variety of topics.

In the Autumn term, we go back in time to discover what life was like when the Vikings invaded Britain, and we challenge ourselves with understanding Forces in Science. In the Spring term, we delve into the world of the Ancient Greeks, learn the techniques of watercolours and investigate materials and their properties in depth. During the Summer term, we complete our year with focused work in Geography studying Brazil and the Amazon basin. In Science, we explore our Solar System and Space.

Throughout the year, we enjoy several themed days in costume, go on enriching outings and we are fortunate to be able to offer swimming and squash lessons for a term each. The children will take part in a year packed full of rich learning opportunities, preparing them for their final year at St Matthew’s C of E Primary School
