Maths
At St Matthew’s we aim to provide our children with a high quality mathematical education. Maths lessons equip children with a deep understanding of mathematical procedures and concepts, the ability to reason mathematically, and a sense of excitement and curiosity about the subject.
Reception and Years 1-5 are following the Mathematics Mastery primary scheme. This scheme moves up the school with the children, and will be in Year 6 from September 2023. Currently, Year 6 follow the White Rose scheme of learning. Both these schemes provide a thoughtfully sequenced mathematics curriculum. Our teachers then adapt and implement this curriculum in a way that meets the needs of individual learners in their class.
An important part of building confidence and competence in maths is achieving number fluency. A secure knowledge of number bonds and times tables can therefore help support your child’s mathematical understanding. It is also an easy skill to practise at home! Please find below a times table resource that has proved to be successful in Shanghai.
