Rules, Behaviour & E-safety

At St Matthew’s Primary we want our pupils to be safe and happy at all times. We have very few rules inside school and they are:

We will:

  • Walk around the building at all times.
  • Hold doors open for adults and each other.
  • Not enter a classroom unless an adult is present.
  • Remain quiet whilst travelling around the building, including corridors, stairs or near any learning areas.
  • Keep to the left whilst walking down the corridors or when ascending and descending stairs.
  • Knock on a door before entering.
  • Behave with courtesy to other pupils and adults alike.

We promote the annual ‘National Anti-bullying’ week within school and the pupils take part in many activities and dramas in order to help them to stay safe.

This year ‘Anti-bullying week’ was held from 14-18 November and particularly focused on the internet being a ‘power for good.’

We also hold an ‘e-safety’ workshop for parents and carers every year in order to help you to identify dangers.

Please look at these tips to help you and your child remain safe from mobile phones, emails or websites (collectively known as ‘cyber bullying’).

Like other forms of bullying, cyber bullying can include a wide range of unacceptable behaviours, including harassment, threats and insults, deliberately designed to cause distress and harm.

National Safer Internet Day 2017

To promote National Safer Internet Day this year (2017), we recently focused a special assembly on ‘The Power of the Image’ and we discussed pictures and videos which may be seen or posted on the internet.

For KS1 the message was that if they see anything which worries or frightens them they should tell an adult about it!

In KS2 the children have been thinking about their own online presence, especially pictures and videos which they may post on line. We have looked at the type of personal information – school uniforms, street signs, pictures of friends etc – which may give clues about them to people that they do not know online.

Their key messages were –

  • Who am I sharing this photo with? Is it someone I know and trust in real life?
  • Who else might see the images? Remember that anyone they send an image to can then share it with others.
  • What will people be able to find out about me? Are there clues to personal information in the photo?
  • What will people be able to find out about other people in the photo? Have they shared someone else’s personal information by accident too?

We also sent home the two following documents for parents.

The first gives a list of useful websites for all matters dealing with on line safety;
Factsheet for Parents and Carers

The second gives some conversation starters for positive discussions about the internet.;
