At St. Matthew's we intend to develop a reading environment that excites, enthuses and inspires children. They have access to an extensive range of reading material within our library, online materials through ‘Bug Club’ and enticing class book corners. The overall purpose is to create a community of readers who share their responses and opinions about books; stir ideas and feelings; and excite the reader’s interest and imagination. We are committed to enabling our children to become confident, fluent, reflective readers through our teaching and through their exposure of rich, diverse and challenging material.
Inspiring reading is our passion, and St. Matthew's is very fortunate to have been visited by many authors and illustrators, so children are able to understand the process of creating books, and therefore enabling them to become vivid writers.
